Muscles of the Neck The muscle of the neck may be arranged into groups corresponding with the region in which they are situated. These groups are nine in number: Superficial cervical region Depressors of the Os Hyoides and Larynx Elevators of the Os Hyoides and Larynx Muscle of the Tongue Muscles of the Pharynx Muscles of the Soft Palate Muscles of the Anterior Vertebral Region Muscle of the Lateral Vertebral Region Muscle of the Larynx The muscle contained in each of these groups is the following: 1. Supervisial Region Platisma Myioides Sterno-eleido-mastoid 2. Infra-Hyoid Region: Depressors of the Os hyoids and Larynx. Sterno-hyoid Sterno-thyroid Thyro-hyoid Omo-hyoid 3. Supra-Hyoid Region: a. Elevators of the Os Hyoides and Larynx Digastric Stylo-hyoid Mylo-hyoid Genio-hyoid 4. Lingual Region: a. Muscle of the Tongue Genio-hyo-glossus Hyo-glossus Stylo-glossus Palato-glossus b. Muscles of the Pharynx Inferior Constrictor Middle constrictor Superior constrictor Stylo-pharyngeous
